Take a combination of humble and driven, then put those two characteristics together and you have Aaron Pritchett. Add in talented, handsome, great songwriter and a focused artist and you have the whole package for success. The combination of all of this, and the fact that Aaron Pritchett is completely in charge of his destiny at the moment makes the title of his new CD ‘In The Driver’s Seat’ make perfect sense. For the first time in Aaron’s career, he is calling the shots and making sure the fans get what they want.

I had the pleasure of chatting with this artist, and can honestly say it was such a wonderful conversation, it reminded me once again why I am in this business in the first place – it is all about the music.

“I didn’t start out as a country music fan. I was a rocker. My really early influences were the rock ‘n’ roll legends my parents used to play. Elvis, Sam Cooke, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Van Morrison, and one of my all time favourites, James Brown. I ‘graduated’ to rock in the 1980’s; the first record I bought was Loverboy, and I was heavily influenced by Canadian acts back then, especially Bryan Adams. (Pritchett’s new single ‘DRIVE’ was co-written by  Bryan Adams and British writer Phil Thornalley). I also loved Def Lepperd, AC/DC, bands like that;  they were all a big part of the rockier licks I use in my songs today. I grew to love country music because of the lyrics, the songs are all about true life experiences.”

Aaron Pritchett was born in busy Vancouver, but was raised in Kitimat, a coastal city in the northwestern area of British Columbia, which to this day has a population of under 10,000 people. “I was adopted when I was 2 years old. I didn’t meet my birth father until I was 15. His name is Aaron as well. I was lucky enough to keep the name I was given at birth. The funny thing is, none of my adopted family was musical, so I never really knew where the passion for playing music came from. When I met my birth father, it all came full circle. My Dad was a singer in a band, played guitar, loved music. It all made sense for me then. He actually passed away about two months ago, doing what he loved. He was singing Karaoke in a bar. My adopted Mom, Donna, who raised me, is a huge fan of my music. Donna comes to all my shows and is a great supporter of my music.”

When asked how does a West Coast Canadian artist end up on tour with country greats such as Alan Jackson, Toby Keith and Brooks and Dunn, Pritchett acknowledged the support he achieved through CMT and radio airplay. “When you have airplay, it is not as hard to convince promoters you are as good as you say. This new CD, ‘In The Driver’s Seat’ is the best music I have done so far. I have the perfect dream team promoting me this time; keeping me out there, helping me focus on my goals. Without a team behind you, it is impossible to reach the goals in front of you. The turning point for me was when I started to get recognized for my music. Winning Independent Male Artist of the Year at the CCMA’s in 2004 and then Songwriter of the Year in 2007 finally put me on the map. ‘Hold My Beer’ was not the song myself and my co-writers thought would ever win a thing. You never know in this business, which song  is the one that is going to stick.” From 2004 through 2011, this will be Pritchett’s 5th album; a huge accomplishment in this industry in such a short period of time. “‘I have just signed a distribution deal with Awesome Productions and Management Inc. (www.awesomemusic.com) who is set to release ‘In the Driver’s Seat’ on June 21 2011, spearheaded by another amazing industry man, Asim ‘Awesome’ Awan. I have never felt more focused, driven as well as grateful right now for this new CD.”

“I think I am finally comfortable in my own skin with my current music. The quality of the songs, being in control of my musical career, guiding my own destiny; I couldn’t ask for more right now. This is a whole new chapter in my career and it started with the creation of this new CD, ‘In The Driver’s Seat’. I am excited and ready to get out on the road and play this new music for my fans. I want them to have as much fun listening to the CD as I have playing it for them.’

Aaron Pritchett gives credit to each and every one of his fans who helped him get to this point, his current team who ultimately kept him going, and especially wants to give acknowledgement to one industry icon, Heather Ostertag. (Past President of FACTOR, Current President of the CMAO and owner of Heather Ostertag and Associates) ‘Without Heather, many aspects of my career would never have happened. She has been a major supporter, a strong mentor and one of my best friends to this day. I thank her from the bottom of my heart for believing in me.”

When asked what advice he would give up and coming artists, he had a great answer. “Get an education, not only in music, but something to fall back on. Never think you’ve learned all you can learn in life.”
