Now being from Cleveland, Ohio, Joe Walsh, James Gang are part of my DNA and “The Eagles to me are pre Joe Walsh and post Joe Walsh. They started hanging out on record on ”So What” and joining him live on “You Can’t Argue With a Sick Mind” , Help Me through the Night Live’, with the Eagles on backing vocal is a classic live track that sold me .

In University my girlfriend had Linda Ronstadt’s “Heart Like a Wheel “and The Eagles “Desperado" while I was a Jackson Browne, JD Souther, Howdy Moon fan. I listened to anything that smelled like it came from California.

The Eagles “Desperado”, the ultimate hurting song and that soulful vocal thing like in “Witchy Woman”.

It was giving something I could feel…a Louisiana, Cajun Redbone Tony Joe White kind of  black swamp funk feel. The vocals were constructed in 100% Blue Eyed Soul or as JD Souther might say “white rhythm and blues” a la  Temptations, The Persuasions, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, a Motown Thing from California ! As a DJ I would always play The Eagles “One of These Nights” with The Spinners, that’s how soulful it was! I dug it and went for the whole ride from then on!

I have only seen The Eagles twice, and this time The History of The Eagles tour is more intimate, a storyteller feel. The evening began with “Saturday Night”, “Train Leaves Here This Morning”, featuring Bernie Leadon into “Peaceful Easy Feeling”.  You really want to see them all together but from watching the DVD you know why it will never happen, but “Hell Did Freeze Over “once.

JD SoutherJD SoutherI felt like The Eagles were in my living room with a few thousand friends and I wanted to turn the stereo up cause the vocals were crystal clear and beautifully executed. The show was  augmented by film clips appealing  to the subtle nature of the show as they literally played hit after hit after hit. Toronto usually takes time to warm up, but they hit ‘em in the heart and it felt great to hear these songs live again.

The History of the Eagles goes across Canada this fall starting in on Sept. 6th & 7th  in Vancouver heading to Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Montreal  and ending  in Toronto again on November 6th at The Air Canada Centre.

The Eagles proved they are still and have always been a vital catalogue of living American music, fueled by some of the best songwriting from 1972 till they are done!  They never fail to write, co-write or find the perfect songs and songwriters, every time. One of their longtime collaborators, JD Souther was just inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame for his legendary work with The Eagles and so many other artists.

The musicians alongside The Eagles were stellar with style and taste, nothing and no one on stage went to waste, these boys put their backs into it and kicked ass! We were on our feet till the end with “Life in The Fast Lane”. The first encore was “Hotel California”; the second 3 song set encore closed the evening with “Desperado". A damn great evening of music that feeds your soul - we needed this! The performances and the music…outstanding, bravo gentleman! If The Eagles never do this again together…they have nailed it good.

Welcome back to Canada!
