Going into its 12th year of Music, Love and Charity, the Andy Kim Christmas has been gathering friends and fans together to celebrate the spirit and generosity of the musical community in Toronto with all proceeds going to charity. The concert event is the brainchild of music legend, and the evening’s host and performer, Andy Kim.
Andy Kim and his Christmas Show has now become as much a part of the Toronto traditions like the tree lighting ceremony at Nathan Phillips Square and The Bay Christmas windows.
In October 2015 Canadian Music Week inducted Andy Kim into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame in honour of his achievements and longstanding career in the music industry.”Andy Kim’s contributions to the Canadian and international music community are truly remarkable in his almost 50 year career,”says CMW President Neill Dixon.
Legendary songwriter and recording artist Andy Kim was born in Montreal, QC Canada. At the age of 16 Andy travelled to New York and found fame when he began to write and work alongside The Brill Building Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame songwriter and producer Jeff Barry. During Kim’s time at The Brill Building he penned and recorded classic hits including “How’d We Ever Get This Way?”, the first of nine Billboard Top 40 hits, and #1 songs like “Rock Me Gently” and the Archie’s “Sugar, Sugar”, one of Billboard’s “Greatest Songs of All Time.” Over his epic career Andy sold over 30 million records, has had his songs covered by music history’s greats, including Wilson Pickett, Tom Jones, Ike & Tina Turner, Gladys Knight and Bob Marley and inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. Andy returned in 2015 with his latest release ‘It’s Decided’, a collaboration with Broken Social Scene co-founder Kevin Drew. Drew says of Kim “Gentle and enigmatic, ageless and ecstatic. Andy Kim always looks to transcend and find the honesty in what he does and does with others.” Ron Sexsmith adds “Whenever I hear an Andy Kim song I can’t help but be transported back in time. So many of my childhood memories are hinged upon these classic pop songs such as “Sugar Sugar”. It feels like some kind of surreal dream to be able to call him a friend.”
Comedian Russell Peters has been announced as host of The 12th Annual ANDY KIM CHRISTMAS, held at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on December 7th. Of the event, Peters says: "I've been wanting to do something on Andy's Christmas Show for years now, but I've always been out of the country. I couldn't be happier.”
The line-up for the Toronto date is stellar as always with donations going to the CAMH Foundation – Gift of Lights. Nelly Furtado, Ron Sexsmith, Roche Voisine, David Clayton Thomas, Finger 11, Tim Baker from Hey Rosetta, and more to be announced.
In keeping with Andy Kim’s Christmas spirit he and his friends are once again going to his hometown - Montreal marking this as the 3rd Annual Andy Kim Christmas at the Corona Theatre in Montreal.
