Hailed by Rolling Stone as "one of the most compelling collectives of art-rock experimentalists in recent years, exploring a mix of high-concept musical odysseys that range from AM bubblegum to kaleidoscopic acid tests," Australian psychedelic seven-piece King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have expanded minds yet again with their latest song "Sleep Drifter".

"Sleep Drifter" is featured on the new album Flying Microtonal Banana, out February 24th via ATO Records. This album is King Gizzard's first-ever experience in microtonal tuning, which features intervals smaller than a semitone and not found in customary Western tuning octaves.

"Earlier this year we started experimenting with a custom microtonal guitar our friend Zak made for Stu," further explained drummer Eric Moore. "The guitar was modified to play in 24-TET tuning and could only be played with other microtonal instruments. We ended up giving everyone a budget of $200 to buy instruments and turn them microtonal. The record features the modified electric guitars, basses, keyboards and harmonica as well as a Turkish horn called a Zurna."

To say the King Gizzard crew is averse to comfort zones is an understatement.

Returning to the US in March, the band will be making their Coachella debut and performing across the entire US in only three weeks. Known for their explosive live shows, fellow Aussies ORB and Stonefield will be opening.

Old 97sOld 97sAnother blast of boozy, woozy West Texas soul, gritty guitars and dusty tales of wonders and wanderers heralds a new album from Old 97s, Graveyard Whistling. "All who wander are not lost...just me," lead vocalist Rhett Miller wistfully sings on the new Old 97's track " All Who Wander", the second song to be released from this 11th studio album. Returning to their roots, Graveyard Whistling was recorded in the same Tornillo, Texas studio as Old 97's 1996 major label debut, Too Far To Care. The band still contains its original four members - Miller, guitarist Ken Bethea, bassist Murry Hammond, and drummer Philip Peeples.

"The trick Old 97's have held on to is to take a song that may have a darker theme and present it as something to be screamed along to in a club," Miller explained. "I don't want to sing sad songs in a sad way. You don't even realize there's a tombstone sticking out in the middle of it until the eighth or tenth listen."

While there are new collaborators on Graveyard Whistling including Nicole Atkins and Butch Walker, there aren't more than a handful of bands in history who can claim to have an intact, unchanged line-up as they approach twenty-five years together. There is, of course, no real blueprint for sustaining the kind of chemistry that Miller, Bethea, Hammond, and Peeples enjoy.

"I think our longevity can be attributed primarily to our friendship and ability to overcome those moments when egos want to overtake and obliterate everything in their path," says Miller. "We experienced the hype of the old business model, with all of its excess and idiocy, and also the deconstruction of that model and the advent of the new world, and been able to maintain a fundamental love for each other."

On vinyl, Graveyard Whistling will be released with four different cover colour options - red, blue, green and silver - with four matching vinyl colours in translucent red, translucent blue, translucent green, and clear.

Blackie & The Rodeo KingsBlackie & The Rodeo Kings

The venerable Blackie & The Rodeo Kings are set to kick off their Canadian tour atMassey Hall onFebruary 25.Colin Linden, Tom Wilson, andStephen Fearing will be joined inToronto by stars of theNashville TV series,Sam Palladio and Charles Esten. Full tour dates can be found below, tickets can be purchased at

The trio are sharing the new video for"Live By The Song" featuring Rodney Crowell, from their latest album, Kings And Kings. "The first line of the song is a quote from Roger Miller," says Fearing on writing the track. "I collect quotes and this one had been talking to me for a long time. I got the first two verses roughed out and then the song ground to a halt. Tom and Colin came in and finished the song in a Halifax hotel room in about half an hour. The bridge is pure Colin Linden and the last verse is very much Tom Wilson."

Out now via File Under: Music, Kings And Kings, is the companion piece to their 2011 collaboration album King And Queens. Where that album featured guest appearances from some of the band's favourite female singers, this one features some of the band's best 'guy' friends from the world of roots, blues, and country. Each one of them an accomplished 'king' in their realm of creative endeavours and in many cases absolute 'king' legends in the entertainment industry.

Dallas Green, Eric Church, Raul Malo, Bruce Cockburn, Fantastic Negrito, Nick Lowe, Jason Isbell, Vince Gill, Buddy Miller, Keb Mo, Rodney Crowell , and the men of the TV show Nashville have all lent their voices to the album.

Blackie And The Rodeo Kings originally formed in 1996, when Colin Linden, Stephen Fearing, and Tom Wilson came together to record what was supposed to be a one-off tribute album to the great Canadian songwriter Willie P. Bennett. At the time, all three members were deeply committed to burgeoning solo careers that they had no intentions of putting on hold, and had no plans to turn Blackie into an ongoing concern. Now 20 years later, eight albums, one JUNO Award, and several JUNO Award nominations under their belts, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings have organically evolved into one of the finest roots-oriented band in North America.

Louie LouieLouie Louie

So here's Louie Louie, four ladies outa Philly bent on reinventing the girl group ethos. They gots the sweet harmonies, the Sixties soul, the crunchy and sometimes surf like guitars and clever little ways of keeping it all in the now, with the aid of edgy post-punk. Debut album Friend of a Stranger is getting attention across a lot of genres. At their album release party PhilaMOCA the conse3nsus was that the ladies have hit a sweet spot between the honed-harmonies reminiscent of the golden age of classic girl groups, while exhibiting fierce, authoritatively catchy, garage-surf sounds. Is it time yet for reimagining The GoGos?

Ruthless Ones Step UpRuthless Ones Step Up  East Side skapunks Ruthless Ones are back with a new single and a new direction . Step Up is a tasty mash of political Britpunk, Caribbean flavoured ska and in yer face rhymes from frontman Murry Robe, whose Strummeresque rasp sells it. It's got all the abrasive humour and confrontational spirit we've come to expect from this crew, as they open up on matters of grave concern fi de yout dem. Plus a fly visual reference to Madness and a performance nod to The Beatles as the video is shot on a rooftop on a gritty strip of the 6ix.
