Dos Mundos Radio Newsletter

Dos Mundos Radio ~ Latino Resite (free download), Alex Cuba (ticket giveaway), Mas Tigre (Party coming soon!) and SPRING FUNDRAISING DRIVE!

Saludos de los Dos Mundos!
Que lo que peoples? What a busy show this week! We launched the world radio premier of ‘Latino Resiste’ compilation, we had interviews with Ninja Tune recording artist Poirier and MC Boogat, we had a great interview with Juno nominated alter-Latino Alex Cuba, we did giveaways for his show at Mod Club as well as the Mas Tigre event happening on April 24 and as always we connected the dots between the past, present and future of Latin music.

In this edition of the Dos Mundos Radio Newsletter, we giveaway an exclusive (not available in stores) compilation courtesy of the homeboy Caballo MC, we get you hyped for the ‘Fro in T.O.’, we give you Mas Tigre and we ask for your help once again!

Latino Resiste!

Our big homey el Caballo has put some serious trabajo into this compilation, showcasing some of Latin America’s most powerful underground, left-field world electronic, dubstep, cumbia, ragga and reggae artists that grooves with their left fist in the air! We’re very happy to be amongst the first selected outlets to not only premier some of the tracks off the album on the show this week, but we’re also lucky enough to be able to share this amazing album with our listeners, for FREE! Download it HERE!

The Fro touches down in T.O.

It’s been a while since Canadian-Cubano singer-songwriter Alex Cuba brought his Alter-Latino rock sound to Toronto, so the show this Saturday night at the Mod Club should prove to be pura candela! Playing new and old material from his many Juno nominated albums, Cuba will bring the noise as he has all over Europe and the US. Joined by Do Right Music’s DJ John Kong, this is a show that can’t be missed! As another special bonus to our Dos Mundos Radio listeners, the first two people to email by noon this Friday: with the subject line ‘Fro for Presidente!’ will get a plus one on the guest-list for Saturday night’s show!

More Tiger?

It’s been a really long time since the Dos Mundos crew got off the couch, did the dishes, mopped the floors and polished off the extra shot glasses but Spring is here and, to us, that means it’s party time! This time around we’re joined by a who’s-who of Canada’s Alter-Latino talento: Lido Pimienta and her amazing electro-tropical-folk sound, Caballo with his candela spitting ragga flava, Huelepega Sound System’s dark and dubby DOOMBIA sound and Tropical Bass flavours courtesy of the Dos Mundos DJ Crew Bakanchido! >a href='">MAS TIGRE! All happening on Saturday April 24, 2010 @ Smiling Buddha Bar (961 College St.) ~ and only $5! So come shake of those frosty winter memories with some Tropical-Freak-Fun!

OK, now we need a little something from you…

We hate to be the type of radio show that is constantly reminding you that we’re the only ones that bring you this unique mix of sounds and influences from Latin America. Or go on about the fact that we’re really trailblazing in Toronto, maybe even Canada, by showing this side of the Latino experience.

And we really don’t want to point out the amount of amazing guests we’ve brought onto the show and into this city, such as the ZZK crew, Kumbia Queers, Toy Selectah, Geko Jones and Uproot Andy, Curumin, Tita Lima, Oro 11 or the amazing local artists we’ve showcased like Rebel Rhythm, Psychotropical Orchestra, El Nosotros, Lido Pimineta, Caballo MC, Dirty Maria, Babalao Stereo Club, Huelepega Sound System and Afrokyou.

We don’t want to talk about the amount of free music, parties and other great cultural events that we’ve shared with our listeners. What we want, is to say that we do this not because we want you to reach out everyday and tell us what a great job we’re doing or that you really respect and dig what we do. No, we do this because we love what we do and respect and dig our music and our culture so much that we can’t keep it to ourselves.

We know things are tough, but we need your help. We’re a brand new show, only 2 years and a few months old and that means we’re still on shaky ground when we don’t raise enough money during fundraising. CIUT offers a ton of great programs and we all come together on a volunteer tip to make sure we give our own version of culture a bit of an edge over that pop stuff.

So next week, when we ask you to pick up the phone, or go online to make a pledge, please think about how much joy we’ve had together on this ride and how a small pledge will keep that energy alive.
If you can’t help with money, help with time and please come down and answer some phones for a few. Anything and everything you can do to help is most appreciated. Dos Mundos Loves You! DONATE ONLINE HERE! (don't forget to say Dos Mundos Radio is your favourite show!)

Hasta La Next-One
