What the World Needs Now is Love

Fri Feb 03, 2023

What a truly strange and stressful few years we have all experienced! COVID, wars, tragedies, hurricanes, tornados, short of locusts we have experienced it all. (Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned locusts and invited that one in!)

But throughout it all we have had music. There is a song for every moment, every memory we have had in our lives. Artists carried on providing us with new songs to keep us going. Legendary artists are touring reminding us about the soundtrack of our lives.

So with music always there – what else do we need? Love. It always ends up as important as breathing and our hearts beating.

What better way to celebrate February the month of love with Cashbox Canada and Cashbox Radio than to create a Pick Hit list of what we love as our favourite songs.

We kick it off with an amazing rendition of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David-penned song, What the World Needs Now is Love. Released in 2018 this cover features

Burt Bacharach, Steve Tyrell, Martina McBride, Rod Stewart, James Taylor & Dionne Warwick and truly is remarkable.

A multi-layered mix of violin, banjo, and acoustic and electric guitar, “Let It All Go” – off Potts’ brand-new album The Storm, both available now – is a heady mix of country jangle and big, full-bodied pop production. Full of uplifting crescendos and fist-pumping choruses, it’s the kind of song that makes you want to roll down the windows and let the breeze blow through your hair. And once you get out of the car, you might even feel a catharsis.

Kamloops, BC's Country Rocker Marshall Potts Gets “Free and Easy” to Fire Up New Album

Fri May 21, 2021

Brandy Records/MC1 Nashville recording artist Marshall Potts is busting open barriers with his new arena-worthy country rock single, “Free and Easy”

The title track from the Canadian artist’s third and forthcoming album, Free and Easy — set to land Summer 2021 via Sony/Orchard — “Free and Easy” is the latest powerful example of Potts’ mission to deliver a universal message of positivity and optimism through music.

While the song’s title may evoke a laid-back aural expectation, “Free and Easy” is a stadium-sized anthem, showcasing Potts’ soaring, full throttle voice that could easily rival any top rock idol’s.

If you need to know how I’m feeling
Let’s share a bottle and some of your time
Cause I need to feel free and easy
Before I’m gonna let you in my mind

From this opening invitation to the sky punching chorus and rollicking outro, “Free and Easy” showcases Potts’ journey of self-discovery and personal evolution in a big, bold way. It’s an attention holding, larger-than-life declaration much like the towering billboard that recently introduced Potts to Music City.

Marshall Potts Free and Easy

Perseverance, patience and positivity, three things that when augmented with talent, are ingredients that Marshall Potts has utilized to the max on his musical journey.

The success of his last single “That’s How It Starts” opened doors for the Kamloops B.C. artist and solidified his belief in his chosen path. The single created career openings such as touring in France and Sweden at major festivals as well as a mainstage performance at Canada’s Indie Week in Toronto which saw him nominated in Best Emerging Artist – National category.

Marshall began writing songs at age 12, after an early heartbreak. At 18, he began his musical journey when he formed a band with high school friends called the Cause. Early performances under this name followed a rebranding of the band name to Saints and Poets. Regular performances and tour dates followed to support the band’s first CD release. Early success was achieved with 2 songs from the CD placed on a movie soundtrack, received radio airplay, a CFOX seeds CD, the Best of BC CD placement, and many live performances.

Canadian Artist Marshall Potts Signs to Entertainment Music Group (EMG)

Fri Jul 26, 2019

Marshall Potts recently posted in a blog about his career-changing experience as a Showcase Artist (June 4-7, 2019) at the most famous global music festival in the world, MIDEM, a yearly event in Cannes, France. Marshall talked about sometimes just having to just take that chance, go with your gut feeling, your blind faith, whatever you want to call it. Just go for it.

So this Canadian rocker took that chance and came back from MIDEM with a management contract with industry veteran, Sandy Graham of Entertainment Music Group (EMG).  Sandy personally has decades of experience in the music industry, having been in radio, records as well as a nightclub owner and manager. The team at EMG is proud to represent artists on a unique management level, giving the artist the final say and developing strategies on both a short term and long term basis.

“I am so grateful to have been invited to join Entertainment Music Group (EMG)”, says Marshall Potts. “Looking forward to an awesome new journey with some amazingly talented and above all decent Human Beings. The team there is all about the music and the artist’s needs.”

We got to spend some time with Marshall is Cannes, France and saw his showcase at the festival and had some insightful one on one chats. The first thing you notice about Marshall Potts is that when he’s talking to you he looks you in the eye and you know you have his full attention. He does that same thing from the stage, the audience is his only focus, that and the message is conveying through his songs.

Marshall Potts Out Here

Fri Feb 16, 2018

The society we live in and especially the music community is built on the conception that it’s essential to keep moving, always pushing through adversity and obstacles. Although this is true for the most part occasionally that action causes an artist to push ahead without taking time to see what else is around him or her. That was the case with Kamloops singer/songwriter Marshall Potts. Not to the point of harm but just not taking time to stop and smell the roses. It took a life-changing event to let Marshall reset his compass. “ I donated a kidney and there were complications. I didn’t react well to the operation and it forced me to make changes in my diet, my stress level management and lifestyle changes in general.”
