Having come to the singer-songwriter game in his mid-40s, the Halifax, UK-based artist is now 54 and sharing the sort of becalmed wisdom only age can provide on his latest single, “Outside Looking In.” Check it out on YouTube here:

Landing with an audibly self-assured grace, the song is a meditation in both content and sound. Symphonic key swells, jangly guitar arpeggios and a shuffling, neo-trap drum beat snake in and out under Foster’s whispery, reverberating vocals as he gently gets his point across. That point? That at the end of the day, “out of the loop” isn’t such a bad place to be if you’re at peace with yourself.

Foster’s new song is the title track from his genre-defying album “Prophecy,” a musical journey sparred from an epiphany that fell upon Foster. “I’ve always had a love of music and played guitar a bit, but until I had a spiritual awakening nine years ago, none of it made sense,” says Foster. “As my life changed as a result of this event, I started to look for meaning in my life, and songwriting became that meaning.”

Gideon Foster is a noteworthy, emerging singer-songwriter based in Yorkshire, UK, blending his philosophical outlook on life with a unique sound of his own. His love of music has led him down many different roads and genres, and while Gideon has drawn inspiration from many of them, he is not to be constrained by them, preferring to go with the flow.

Gideon answered his calling a little later than most, not producing a song until his mid-40s but hasn’t stopped since, releasing many singles, an EP, and most recently his debut album Prophecy which is a musical documentation of his journey and the life-changing event that led to him writing songs.
