Although it took a while to get to the dance, Mark Wihlidal is set to go all in and leave his mark. We caught up with Mark at his home in Southern Ontario to discuss his newfound passion for songwriting and recording: “I have been writing for about 6 years and I’m really happy and proud our latest song “ Hoping Love Will Come My Way” recorded at Artists development studio Clarington, Ontario with our talented friend Alex Paris at the helm.”

Fools GoldMark Wihlidal is a fearless artist who decided to take a chance on his musical craft later in life, releasing singles in the last few years that have garnered attention by his own hands on approach along with working along side a team of knowledgeable professionals like Eric Alper and Sandy Graham. Mark understands the competitiveness of the music business and knows the perspiration is as important as the inspiration to have a shot at success. ‘I spend a regular working day of 8 hours a seeking out global radio stations and booking my new band – Mark Wihlidal and Fool’s Gold. So far it’s paying off. We’re getting significant airplay and the band is getting work.”

Mark’s fluid sonic nature is reflected in the recording process, relying mainly on trust between bandmates. “When I create a song, I always encourage my bandmates to create their own parts. Everyone is involved in the creative process. I believe it makes the songs sound better. With “Hoping Love Can Come My Way, I recorded it with our new band that has been together only six months, but we seemed to have a great connection in our practicing so off to the studio with the Fools Gold band with Paul Lanthier on drums, Gord Wallace on bass guitar and Dave McCarthy on guitar.”

Mark goes on to explain the genesis of “Hoping Love Will Come My Way.” “Like most of my songs this song is based on a life experience, one that I’m sure a lot of folks have experienced and will be able to relate to. I’m really happy with the final product and I hope it speaks to a lot of folks. “

Hoping Love Can Come My Way
First time I saw her, I looked in her eyes

I knew it was love, but she didn’t realize
I wanted to meet her, so bad that day
See if love, would come my way

I think this song’s story is something that most of us have experienced. The rest of the song I’m hoping that she feels the same way and hoping her love can come my way. I wrote chords and lyrics, but I always let my guys put their own creativity into their parts, so it becomes a team effort. When you let people create, it always adds another dimension, and they also feel part of the song:”

I keep trying, but she slips away
Come on girl, come my way
I’ll show you love, like never before
I’ll show you love, forevermore
Oh please
(Repeat)

The closing lyrics are ones that we have all felt in our lives, no matter what your age is, we are still seeking that Hollywood ending:
I’ve needed you all my life
So come on girl, be by my side
I’ve needed you all my life
So come on girl, be by my side
I haven’t had love, for sometime
Show me girl, and I’ll be fine

Mark Wihlidal continues to pursue his dream of connecting with audiences from all walks of life through the power of music.
