Under dim lights, with a bottomless glass of cognac, it invites listeners into a space where every note and lyric tell a tale. With vintage style, yet contemporary sound, it offers unique music that pushes the boundaries of jazz, and jazz songwriting. Performing with an eight-piece band, Bassels celebrates the album launch on February 13th at Toronto’s Drom Taberna, 458 Queen St West. Doors open at 7 pm, an opener at 8 pm and Bassels goes on at 9 pm. Tickets are $22.63 at Eventbrite.

Juno-Nominated Denielle Bassels Releases New Single “Lighthouse”

Thu Oct 24, 2024

Toronto-based, JUNO-nominated artist DENIELLE BASSELS releases her first single “Lighthouse,” from her upcoming third album It Goes Like This, slated for release in February, 2025. Following her highly-acclaimed, JUNO-nominated Little Bit a’ Love, the new album promises a daring, imaginative journey – think Ella Fitzgerald’s grace clashing with Moby Dick’s epic narrative, or Nina Simone’s intensity encountering 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. “Lighthouse” will be out October 25th, on all major platforms. For more information please visit any of the links below or Bassels’s website.

From a husky whisper to a full-on scream, and through that cycle again, "Lighthouse" builds to a wildly frenetic peak of interpolated piano (by Ewen Farncombe) and violin (by Drew Jurecka) solos, reflecting the intense internal turmoil in Bassels's soul. As Leonard Cohen said in "Closing Time," "The whole damn place goes crazy twice."

It's time again for DISCOVERIES, a showcase series that brings four artists together, have each one work to bring out as many family members, friends and fans as they are able and then the room fills up to give each of the four artists attention and support. This year's lineup:
Ezra Jordan started piano lessons at five, and drums at nine. He shifted focus to singing and writing songs while studying music at the University of Guelph, and while playing keyboards in Warner Bros. artist Scott Helmans band. He continued his studies at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, where he graduated from the Independent Artist Program. He is now working on writing and recording his first solo project, which is a blend of Alt. Pop and R&B. Ezra can currently be seen playing with his band in clubs around Toronto.
