Fri Nov 24, 2023

Singer-songwriter Ron Kalmakoff’s music is so closely correlated with evoking vivid nostalgia in his listeners, that his fans asked for years if he would ever consider releasing a full Christmas album. This holiday season they are in luck, as his first ever Christmas single “Christmas Once Again,” just in time to incorporate into this year’s music memories. Check it out on YouTube here:

Before migrating to the west coast of Canada, Kalmakoff spent his childhood roaming the prairies of Canora, Saskatchewan, an experience he illustrates in an earlier song of his entitled “Where the Willows Bend.” In “Christmas Once Again”, he calls upon that same wistfulness, changing the lyrics of “Where the Willows Bend,” and inviting listeners back to that familiar special place in Canora- this time to stay for the holidays.

Sunshine Coast's Singer-Songwriter Ron Kalmakoff Releases “Bells” From Latest Album 'Nature'

Fri Oct 07, 2022

A song and its lyrics can at times be given a new life and meaning, recreated by another voice and story.  Such is the case with Ron Kalmakoff’s version of the song, “Bells.”

Check it out on YouTube here:

Ron’s vision was to keep the musicality and instrumentation of this song simple and poignant, so that the poetry of the piece could shine.  “I thought, how do these words relate to our world today? The struggles and fears of this complex environment we live in or that others may be facing. A senseless war and those that bear the burden of not being allowed to live their lives with peace and love. As sad as the lyrics of this song may sound, they are beautifully written and somehow filled with hope.”

Ron Kalmakoff Highlights the Heartbreak Side of Human Nature with New Single, “You Be The Leaver”

Fri Mar 25, 2022

There are two kinds of nature: the world around us and the world inside us. After musically addressing our global climate crisis with his most recent single, “Mother Nature,” Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Kalmakoff is turning his attention inward to aspects of human nature with his achingly beautiful interpretation of Jim Cuddy’s “You Be The Leaver”.

Check out “You Be The Leaver” on YouTube here:

An original work by one of the five celebrated Canadian songwriters that Kalmakoff chose to pay homage to on his newest full-length album, Nature, released last November, “You Be The Leaver” is a story of love that faded and two lovers who drifted apart but, to Kalmakoff, it has a bigger scope that opened up some deep self-reflection too.

Sunshine Coast, BC's Ron Kalmakoff Pays Ode & Urgency to the Planet in “Mother Nature”

Fri Nov 19, 2021

Whether you believe it or not, climate change is real, global warming is real, and our planet is in crisis. Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Kalmakoff addresses the urgent need for action in the face of this emergency with the release of his new single and video, “Mother Nature”.

Check out “Mother Nature” on YouTube here: onkalmakoff.com/

Landing ahead of his forthcoming album, Nature — arriving November 15th — the song features soaring instrumentation and a bold tapestry of male and female vocal harmonies, complete with the sound of  late-‘60s light-rock ballads and conjuring a slowed-down 5th Dimension’s “Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In.”

With lyrics like ‘You're not the only one/In this place, in this space/It's not your universe,’ the message of “Mother Nature” is not one of the dawning of a bright new future - but rather an admonishment to those who don’t care, as well as a kind of prayer to Mother Earth for help, and possibly forgiveness.
