This new addition to our brand is a column dedicated to the night life (and some days) in the great city of Toronto, featuring live event photos. Tracey Savein brings an incredible eye (of the lens) capturing special moments in time. Because as the saying goes – A picture is worth a thousand words.

To kick off the column I asked Tracey to provide her 10 favourite photos from the past and present and she did not disappoint.

Hello Everyone,

First up, a big thank you to Sandy Graham and the Cashbox Canada team for having me aboard. I’m thrilled to be added to the masthead of this storied publication.

I’ve had camera in hand for a good part of my life. As a kid, borrowing my Dad’s Instamatic to document friends on the last day of school or up at summer camp, I thought it fun and important to have a visual memory of the people and events around me, as these images would be a reminder of moments in time, something to last forever. Throughout the years, music, travel, art and nature, locales and current events and sports and entertainment were all added as my shutter subjects, tying in the love I have for all of these things into a career in photography.

My first professional gig back in the 80’s (yes, I started when I was five) was covering a big outdoor event where the musical guest and headliner was none other than a recently solo Rik Emmett of Triumph fame!!! I was hooked. Since then, shooting all kinds of shows and events in tandem with photographing locations as a scout for film and television productions, the camera has rarely left my side.

Any kind of photography, as I see it, is all about capturing motion and emotion. Whether the subject is raucous and rockin’ or the location is silent and still, if you can transport the viewer into a moment in time with an image and relay the energy of that moment, well, there’s your photograph. So, when ask by Cashbox for a few of my favourite photos to kickstart the column called “Picture This”, we decided on “10 in 10” - ten photos, ten years past.

For the purpose of this magazine, I’ve chosen subjects in live entertainment. None that are perfect but, like when I was a kid, they are ‘a reminder of moments in time’.

In no particular order, my “10 in 10”…and if you’d like to see these photos and more, as well as some information about my work, please click on the portfolio at southpawprophotography.com where you’ll find both SmugMug and LinkedIn icons. And social…well, I’ve always preferred to do that in person.

Until next time, see you out there and across the pages…Tracey
