Calefaction

Presented by Lula Music and Arts and the Little Portugal Toronto BIA, Calefaction, (which means warming), is an exciting new winter festival taking place along Dundas West, from Friday, January 6th to Sunday, January 29th, 2023. The event will feature concerts, DJs, karaoke, dance and music workshops, giveaways, a sidewalk sale, mural tours, gallery and vintage crawls, plus more! With more than 20 free events planned, Calefaction provides the perfect incentive to visit the creative community on Dundas West, to feed the soul. Event-goers are encouraged to linger, do some shopping, maybe get a haircut and check out some public art. There’s something for everyone to enjoy. For more information and concert details please visit the website here or any of the links below.

Why Calefaction?

2022 had a dramatic conclusion for the Dundas West community when in late November a giant sinkhole was discovered running under the streetcar tracks between Sheridan and Brock. While repairs were completed in time for New Year’s celebrations, the closure of the street had a devastating impact on the smaller businesses on the strip as winter set in. (See media coverage here.)

In response to this challenge, programmers at Lula Music and Arts, Little Portugal Toronto BIA and Transmit Presents put their heads together to plan a ‘post pit celebration’ with an eye to announcing that their beloved strip of Dundas West is once again open to vehicles, streetcars, bicycles and pedestrians and that Dundas West is ready to party!

Highlights include the HAPPY SUNDAY free concert series at The Baby G, a free album release party by Lady Yetunde (also featuring Butterfly Band), workshops on African drumming and dancing cha cha cha, a multi-lingual karaoke night and a gallery crawl to the many art galleries that make Little Portugal BIA their home.

Check out lulaworld.ca/calefaction for the ever-expanding schedule of free and ticketed events at Lula Lounge, Baby G, Orwell, Black Dice, Brockton Village Bakery, La Piscina and other Dundas West hot spots. Events will be added throughout the month so keep checking back to the site and on socials, for updates and giveaway announcements). Follow us on instagram at @calefaction.to
