Brock Pytel Anemic HeartBack from the brink Brock Pytel delivers his new single coupled with his video clip Anemic Heart. Facing his own mortality after near fatal health issues in 2020 that he overcame during this worldwide crisis. Like many of us faced with this dilemma that are creative in this business we venture to take a deeper spiritual look at our work that we share with our fans after such a trauma. Understanding that the truth matters in any relationship personal or whatever is essential to ascension and the candid vocal delivery on this song is reminiscent of a higher being or artist in the likes of a Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits a la Adult Alternative Pop which is not perfect but pure, compassionate and elevated on a level of humanity and acceptance that love is not a given.

Brock Pytel, best known as the singing drummer for late 80’s Montreal pop-punks The Doughboys whose succes started with the Album Whatever featured in a film with powerhouse Canadian Director Robin Spry. Recorded at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango with Howard Bilerman (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Arcade Fire) after some Doughboys reunion tour dates with The Foo Fighters. The track features two of his former bandmates, Jonathan Cummins on the Jazzmaster, and Jon “Bond Head” Asencio on bass (both of whom are in Montreal’s The Low Sixes) and was mastered by Ronan Chris Murphy (Gwar, King Crimson).

Accompanying the new single is Pytel’s video for Anemic Heart, filmed and edited by prolific Vancouver artist RD Cane. The video featureseth ereal cityscapes, passion and idyllic beach scenes from an astral plane that compliment Pytel’s poignant yet deliberately jarring lyrics and harmonies, painting the contrast of a love gained, then lost.

As fate would have it. In the years between the sessions for the singles and their subsequent releases, the recordings fell into an extended dormancy. Happily for the fans like me these songs on the new EP were were recorded during and after such an emotional epiphany that Brock Pytel reached deep in his soul to deliver us this treasure to be heard over and over again for any of us that are on the brink of a rupture but telepathecally and spiritually know its game over but just want the truth. More solo singles from the H2T sessions in the months ahead, and unleash a 5-song vinyl EP of his power pop band SLIP~ons in Summer 2023.
