There's a classic adage that says those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. And in a world where past injustices and inequalities continue to be uncovered while current injustices remain, that statement unfortunately still rings true. For the Calgary, Alberta rock group Redhead Mack Band, educating youth about rather recent scandals such as Canada's residential schools and the tragic price paid by Indigenous children is a difficult challenge. But fortunately, they've taken a great step towards creating awareness of universal injustices with the single "Oppression" from their latest album You Know That You Want To.

With percussive electric guitar, a driving beat, and a soaring chorus, “Once Again” begins with the story of someone who feels like they’re locked in an inevitable cycle of broken relationships, all blurring together in the dysfunction of sameness. But then the chorus rushes in with some positivity and a fist pump to remind the narrator – and us – that it will eventually get better:

Some people say think if you do what you love for a living, your job is easy to do. However, this isn't as cut and dry as it seems. No one understands this more than Calgary, AB-rockers Redhead Mack Band in their new single "Pick It Up," the first single from their new album You Know That You Want To. The song opens with steady riffs from lead guitarist Lee Carlson and backup vocalist and bassist Jared Wiebe. Then songwriter and vocalist Kevin Phillips comes in with the first two verses, which discuss picking up something new and then learning to enjoy it. However, the chorus that follows shows how a personal passion can dominate your life once you start trying to make a living from it.
