A "Simple Is Better" Plan: Toronto Alt.Rock Sister Act Caardia Clean Out The Clutter On New Self-Titled Album

Sun Jul 21, 2024

ALBUM RELEASE SHOW: JULY 24 – DAKOTA TAVERN, TORONTO

Part of growing up is learning to disentangle yourself from people and situations that no longer serve your best interests. Singing sisters Celia and Annie Siriopoulos—collectively known as Caardia—share the wisdom of that lesson on their new single, “Simple Is Better,” which finds them leaving behind the sounds and preoccupations of their child-pop past to enter a Renaissance of indie-alternative maturity.

Both musically and philosophically, the track proves that these Markham-born, Toronto-based tunesmiths are right where they should be for 19 and 21. If anything, they’re already wise beyond their years.

“‘Simple is Better’ is about letting go of toxic relationships, friendships and any other connections that are causing more harm than good,” the duo explains. They call it a song of “overcoming and achieving”—one that talks about perseverance and “following the toxic cycle of ‘forgive and forget’ until you cannot do that any longer.”

Alt Singer/Songwriting Sisters Caardia are “Over You” in New Single

Fri Apr 02, 2021

Canadian alt pop singer/songwriters Caardia embrace growth and overcome the past in this, their newest single, “Over You”.

The latest to land from the multi-talented powerhouse duo, sisters Celia and Annie Siriopoulos continue to draw on their personal stories and observations as inspiration for their distinct lyrical storytelling. There’s a telepathy shared within their natural chemistry; cascading harmonies bolstered by a sisterly bond result in a synchronicity of their songs as they explore themes of life, challenges, working through pain, and coming out on the other side.

The new song nestles well within this stream, and is a “representation of the vulnerability one can have when having feelings for someone,” Annie shares. “It brings up the fear of ‘new feelings’ and the unknown.”

“The song also acknowledges self-worth, and not relying on someone else for our own happiness and validation,” Celia adds. “By acknowledging our thoughts, we can come to terms with the feelings we have, and start to grow from them.”

Singer/Songwriting Sisters Caardia Release New Single & Video "The Deep End"

Fri Feb 28, 2020

Toronto alt-pop singer/songwriters Caardia caution the dangers of cell phone and social media dependency in their newest single and video, “The Deep End”.

The second single — and the title track — from their critically acclaimed debut EP, The Deep End, sisters Celia and Annie Siriopoulos penned the song with producer Ryan Guay and Erik Van Wissen.

“‘The Deep End’ is about the dependency people have on cell phones in society today,” Celia offers on the song’s origin. “And the false reality they create for themselves,” Annie adds.

For the song, the Siriopoulos sisters were keen to shine a light on the issue by stressing the importance of wrongly-represented realities and false intimacies of relationships — no matter the context — through a screen. The pair spare no allusive punches staking claim to the severity of the situation, playing out real relationships fragmenting and handcuffs attached to cell phones.

“Not only do people depend on social media, but they fall so far into this false reality that they are unable to escape,” Annie continues. “The video is a visual experience symbolizing how lost and vulnerable people become.”
