Seven years ago, when COVID hit, I was grounded from travelling and doing my keynote speaker appearances in Europe. And that is how Cashbox Radio was born. Now with listeners in Germany, Brazil, UK, Norway, Finland, Sweden, France, USA, Philippines our listeners are from all over world, once again showing music has no borders.

We gathered as music professionals, and we compiled an eclectic library that now exceeds over 7,500 tracks from all eras and many countries. And we are adding new songs daily.

So then we thought we should have a way to combine indie artists with hit artists to compile what could the Top Ten of most requested songs on the station every month.

Artists nowadays have a difficult time breaking into major market radio, and we feel this is way for us to support them.

As the season is upon us, Cashbox Radio, like most stations at this time, is busy putting the rotation list together of the old standards as well as the 2023 Indie Releases that we feel deserve airplay and attention.

For 16 years now I have had the pleasure of owning Cashbox Canada, which came at a time when I had already put in decades in the music industry and at the time, I was looking for a new challenge.

The one constant love I have always had was my career in radio. My home has antique radios I have collected over the years, and many of my best memories were when I was a young Music Director in Montreal, Quebec. Back then, a Music Director was given the privilege and the power to ’break’ a record. I relied on the promo guys who would bring product to the weekly music meeting every Wednesday without fail. When I realized that radio in its current stat was no longer experiencing what it was like to give a record a chance.

It was not an easy task to list the Top 50 songs that came into the Cashbox office in 2021, and I am sure we missed some of the ones that deserve to be on this list.

Our list is compiled by content; songs that were relevant and moving about our current times with the pandemic, racism, the sad discovery of unmarked graves of Residential School Indigenous children, love and hope and great songs both lyrically and musically.

It was also based on statistic numbers of requests on Cashbox Radio and social media posts about these songs and artists.

The Top 50 Pick Hits is not a chart and the positions are based on alphabetical listings.
