Canadian rock band The Monoxides are kicking off 2025 with the release of a new single, “Radio Sunshine.”Stream it here.

“Radio Sunshine” - a blast of summery power pop in the vein of Cheap Trick and The Raspberries with a touch of Thin Lizzy-style guitars - follows The Monoxides’ 2023 single “Let Her Know,” which enjoyed campus and community radio support as well as airplay on CBC and Stingray.

“Some of our longtime friends and fans may remember us playing ‘Radio Sunshine’ live as far back as 1998, but we were never quite happy with the song’s arrangement,” says Steve Hickox, the group’s lead vocalist and guitarist. “We came back to it over the years, and Marco (Rocca, guitarist) recently put finishing touches on it that we’re really happy with. It shows the sunnier side of The Monoxides, and is a tip of the cap to a lot of great 1970s power pop bands we all grew up listening to on the radio. We have a few more fun things planned for 2025, so stay tuned.”

Hailing from Moncton, New Brunswick, The Monoxides rose to national prominence with the Out of the Marsh EP (Handsome Boy Records, 1995) and full-length effort Galaxy of Stooges (BMG Music Canada, 1997), which spawned the singles "(Can't Get) Excited" and "Little Bitta Rosie." The latter release was produced by The Pursuit of Happiness leader Moe Berg, who called it “one of the best experiences of my life.”

The Monoxides toured Canada relentlessly and earned a reputation for energetic live shows while playing alongside acts including Our Lady Peace, ZZ Top, the Headstones, The Pursuit of Happiness, Sloan, Rusty, and Change of Heart.

Following the release of their last full-length effort, The Free Release of Energy (2000), The Monoxides took a lengthy back seat in favour of the band members’ other musical endeavours as well as the usual grown-up hustle of jobs, mortgages, and raising kids.

In recent years, The Monoxides have resumed live performances throughout the Maritimes and have remained a consistent live draw. The group most recently co-headlined a performance at Casino New Brunswick in Moncton alongside fellow Moncton band The Motorleague, and, over the course of the last eight years, has served in both a headline and support capacity alongside the likes of The Beaches, Billy Talent, Sloan, Steven Page, Odds, Headstones, July Talk, The New Pornographers, The Stanfields, and others.

The Monoxides are:
Steve Hickox - lead vocals, guitar
PJ Dunphy - bass
Derek Robichaud - lead guitar
Marco Rocca - vocals, guitar
Ken Kelley – drums
