Lou Reed 1977

Having forsaken the leafy lanes of Riverdale for the gritty and noisy ambience of downtown, my days start early. It’s barely noon and I’ve already seen on the busy sidewalk out front, a pair of drug deals go down, one involving a period of testy give and take and a panhandling skirmish, all casually ignored by the folks rushing by and around them. A taste of Lou Reed’s paean to the black angel seemed apropos.

Tedeschi Trucks Band

GRAMMY-winning 12-piece musical ensemble Tedeschi Trucks Band, led by husband and wife, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, have announced their new album, Signs, out February 15. Featuring 11 new original songs, the album expands on the group’s omnivorous musical appetites, while facing down troubled times with credence and conviction. World-class musicianship is on full display in the genre-defying collection that runs the gamut from uplifting soulful anthems to bittersweet ballads and driving rock and roll.

The teaser is new single ‘Hard Case,’ which showcases Derek’s peerless guitar work and Susan’s stunning, soulful vocals, done to a rootsy rockabilly shuffle.

Consequence of Sound Names King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizzard Band of the Year

Fri Jan 12, 2018

On the heels of a transformative and ultra-productive 2017 (releasing five studio albums) Melbourne's King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will return to the U.S. and Canada this spring for a major cross-country tour hitting nineteen cities including Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. The band will play their largest venues to date such as LA's Hollywood Palladium, San Francisco's Warfield Theatre, and NYC's Brooklyn Steel.

As promised at the beginning of the year, King Gizzard successfully released an unprecedented five studio albums in 2017 with the release of Gumboot Soup arriving this past New Year's Eve. 2017's other previous four records - February's Flying Microtonal Banana, June's Murder of the Universe, August's Sketches of Brunswick East and November's Polygondwanaland - have all received critical acclaim and contributed to a whirlwind year for the band. Some benchmarks include their first Coachella performance, their worldwide TV debut on Conan and headlining sold-out shows at landmark venues including two nights at Chicago's Lincoln Hall, two nights at New York City's Webster Hall and San Francisco's The Fillmore.

"Please don't be smoking anything in the entrance. Please move away from the entrance." The security was addressing a large fogbank of high-grade resin hanging over the sidewalk directly in front of the venue as fans of the Aussie septet got their weed on. The vibe out front was all love and brotherly hugs as the fans of the neopsychedelic outfit adhere strongly to the hippie ethic and inside, it was thus also with the addition of genre touches like wizard hats and an excellent Lizard Gizzard mask.
