Shook Boys Hot Wax! Immortalized on 10″ Sleazy Records’ Vinyl

Fri Mar 15, 2024

With Shook Boys fresh from their first performance in Europe at the 30th Rockin Race Jamboree in Spain, Sleazy Records has answered the band’s fans call by releasing a limited 10″ vinyl record of their self-titled debut album in March 2024.

Originally dropped on streaming platforms in November 2023, the album’s transition to vinyl is a nod to the band’s 1950s aesthetics. With seven songs packed into a lively 15-minute experience, the album certainly calls for a 10″ record—a timeless soundtrack of rebellious youth.

Shook BoysThe self-titled album, “Shook Boys,” is a reflection of the boys’ lifestyle—a soundtrack to juvenile delinquency and reckless living. Inspired by the no-holds-barred ethos of the 1950s rock’n’roll era, the band stays true to the roots of rockabilly while fearlessly pushing its boundaries with sounds of garage, doo-wop, and rhythm & blues.

Shook Boys - A Timeless Soundtrack of Rebellious Youth

The eponymous disc; a timeless soundtrack of rebellious youth.

The last ones about after the squares got called home; Shook Boys’ stompin’ grounds are the Streets of Toronto. Infamous in the city, their names painted on walls, carved in trees besides those of long forgotten conquests. Unhinged with instruments in hand, they indulge the nasty rhythms that boil primitive urges to the surface. Vocals fixated on the grit of street life, showcasing a rebellious spirit that defies conventional norms.

It is also available wherever you stream music but being true to their aesthetic, Canada’s rockinist rockabilly band the Shook Boys just released their first 45rpm single and it hits hard. The band draws inspiration from the 1950s rock and roll era while infusing a modern sound that pushes the boundaries of rockabilly. This sound has them fitting right in with the fact they are a part of the LA-based, Wild Records. The double A sides single features the band’s original songs “Tell On You” and “Dead by 22”. Both songs were recorded at Ganaraska Recording Company and self-produced by the band.

Shook Boys - Not Your Daddy’s Rockabilly

Hell no. This Toronto foursome reaches way, way back to the Golden Era of rockabilly bad-asses like The Big Bopper, Link Wray, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins and Sonny Burgess as inspiration for their surly and unruly brand of rockabilly.

Here’s how they see it. “Shook Boys are a wild rockabilly band. They don’t play music to fall in love to, they play nasty stuff that boils primitive urges to the surface - like when you’re feeling right but doin’ wrong.”

“ Distilled from the Toronto’s rockin’ scene and forming in the summer of 2019 they got Murry up front; making people scream before he opens his mouth, Paddy on drums just banging and yellin’, Steve beating out notes on the double bass, and Big Mark with the amplified guitar - not thinking,  just keepin’ the chords live. Always impeccably dressed, when the band hits the floor during their electrifying live shows, vintage clothing enthusiasts get squirrely at the sight of filthy stage grime being ground into gabardine… and they don’t treat their instruments any better.”
