Who says you can’t go home? Veteran troubadours Lisa Hartt and Don Graham will return to the city where it all started. On Saturday, September 13th the two native Montrealers, are set to share the bill at Montreal’s premier listening room, Cafe Mariposa in NDG.

They both started off at the same time and played and hung out at a lot of the same coffee houses, and small clubs like Café Andre. Later, they both had careers as recording artists, Lisa with The Lisa Hartt Band, “Old Time Movie” and Don with Graham County, “Colorado”, performing with bands. They both toured extensively, soaking up experiences that would serve them well in developing songwriting craft down the line. As the years went by they both developed into singer/ songwriters and solo performers.

In recent years they’ve done numerous shows together in Toronto, Oakville, and other spots in Ontario and most recently in Sweden over the last couple of years at the Lilla By Festivalen in Rinkaby. This will be the first time performing in Montreal together, so it’s a real homecoming and full circle moment.

The club was created by musician Victor Labelle and it’s really all about the music at Mariposa. The club has been a mainstay for up-and-coming as well as established folkies and rockers like Danny O’Keefe, “Good Time Charlie’s Got The Blues” and it provides a place for singer/songwriters of all genres to showcase their talents. The name is a tribute to Ontario’s famed Mariposa Folk Festival. “I went to the festival in 1970, saw James Taylor and Joni Mitchell and haven’t been the same since,” Labelle says with a smile.

Don Graham: “I’m really looking forward to playing Café Mariposa again. It’s one of my favourite venues in the world. I’ve played there four or five times. It has great sound and sight lines and a cool 60’s coffee house vibe to it. There’s not a lot of places like this left. And Victor makes an excellent burger!”

Lisa Hartt: "Montreal is my birthplace, my roots and all the precious days of my childhood, youth, all the joys of my family all wrapped into one amazing gift of memory. Having the opportunity to return to my hometown and perform with fellow Montreal at such a great venue, Café Mariposa, is truly like going home.”

So if you’re in the area on September 13Th get yourself down to Café Mariposa 5562 Upper Lachine Road in Montreal.
