velours Changes Name to Vikki Minor

Fri Apr 14, 2023

The 23-year-old alt-pop artist formerly known as velours has changed her name to Vikki Minor. The name change comes as Minor embarks on a new chapter in her career, preceding the release of her upcoming E.P., Call Me Vikki.

"I'm so excited to share this new chapter in my life with my fans," comments Minor. "I've felt for some time that I've outgrown the artist name 'velours', and I'm finally able to embrace this new era as Vikki Minor."

The new name is just one of many changes Minor has made in recent months. She has also been honing in on her new sound, as heard on recent releases, which she describes as "Neo-'90s Alternative Pop." Additionally, moving from Saskatoon to Toronto has placed Minor at the epicentre of Canadian music.

"I'm really psyched about continuing to develop this sound under my new name," adds Minor. "The music I'm working on is my best so far and I can't wait to share it!"

Award-Nominated Canadian Tour de Force velours Lifts the Curtain on “Whatever That Means”

Fri Aug 20, 2021

Multi-award nominated Canadian tour de force velours has lifted the curtain on her newest single, “Whatever That Means”.

A follow-up to her breakthrough debut EP, Identity, the bilingual Canadian songstress with velvety vox strikes the chord between progressive rock and alternative pop — all the while, her lyricism sparked with emotion, laced with authenticity and emphatically raw in its delivery.

For velours, the effort to seek refuge through empathy captivates and fascinates audiences alike. She doesn’t shy away from sharing – from lining the walls of her lyrics with the truth. In fact, she fashions her artistry from laying it all to bear – for better or worse; and the resolve that comes from being truly vulnerable.

Velvet-Voiced Alt-Pop Artist velours Sheds Painful Past in New Single, “Your Sweater”

Fri Mar 26, 2021

Multi-award nominated Canadian alt-pop, electro-synth and velvet-voiced artist velours pulls at some of life’s painful yarn in this, her new single “Your Sweater”.

“For me, the concept of the ‘sweater’ represents the physical objects we tend to cling onto after a relationship has ended, and the other person has ‘checked out’ long before you have,” the Saskatoon-based singer/songwriter explains. “This idea of ‘what do you do when everything except them has been left behind’ really stood out to me; all of a sudden, these insignificant objects hold so much weight.”

The new single is the latest to land from breakthrough artist’s debut EP, Identity — which was produced by multi-Platinum JUNO Award-winning record producer Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Bif Naked, CARYS).

Velvet-Voiced, Alt-Pop Artist velours Cuts The “Summer Haze” With Release of New Single & Album, Identity

Fri Oct 02, 2020

At 10,000+ views and rising, alt-pop, electro-synth and velvet-voiced Saskatoon-based artist velours is cutting through the “Summer Haze” with the release of her new single and EP Identity — both available now.

“‘Summer Haze’ was the most intimate song I had written for Identity, and it’s meant to evoke a feeling of renewal… An escape from an internal cage,” she considers. “The afternoon I wrote it, I was inspired by the realization that it’s okay to not know the ending to the story of my life, and that I’m fine to still be messy. And that none of this makes me any less of a complex and strong person.
