We created The Cashbox Canada Legacy Award to be given to music business icons who we feel deserve to be in some sort of Hall of Fame for the contributions they have given over the years.

The first was given to Bobby Curtola, a Canadian treasure and trailblazer, 5 more followed and now #7 was awarded to a person who his not actually Canadian, but over the years has supported and promoted Canadian artists as well as making his own mark as an entrepreneur in the music industry.

So what could be more fitting than to award this to Peter Astedt at a networking reception on the 15th of February, 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden at the Canadian Embassy, who hosted the event.

Surrounded by his peers, and the delegates from his Future Echoes Festival, with Women in Music Canada in attendance, It was truly a magical event, proving the strong alliance between Sweden and Canada, that Astedt has been cultivating for decades. Once again proving that music has no borders.

We also had the pleasure of re-presenting the Award again in Peter’s homebase of Norrkoping, where his festival Future Echoes is located. Once again surrounded by his peers, we were also graced with the presence of the Norrkoping Mayor Anna Sotkasiira Wik.

Peter Astedt has been working in the music industry for over 30 years. He started his own record label, Dead Frog Records, at the age of fifteen in 1990. Over the years he has started several companies in different fields in the music industry like PR, Publishing, Distribution, Sync placements, Management, Festivals, and Artist Development. Today he oversees several of the departments on Musichelp which is an umbrella company of different companies that works on a global level.

Peter has also been involved in working to structure cities to become music cities. He has worked with five of the top twenty most-streamed songs in the world. He writes the popular music blog that is also published in Cashbox Magazine Canada and is a partner in Record World International. He is also part owner of Cashbox Radio, an international online radio station.

Currently, he also is a booker and curator on Sweden’s new showcase festival Future Echoes, Norrköping Music Day and Lilla By Festivalen. Recently, Astedt became a Board Member for The Drive Foundation, a Canadian charity whose mission is to bring awareness to mental health in the creative arts.

A well-deserved award to a man who truly is one of the hardest working people in the music industry. Congratulations and Félicitations du Canada!
