Bara Jonson and Free – Knock Knock – Will You Answer?

Sat Feb 10, 2024

Their journey into a personal and musical relationship with Canada began in Newfoundland in 2019. Appearing on a showcase festival, the Newfies embraced them and the birth of the song “Hello Newfoundland” was a tribute to the people there which resulted in another tour and lifelong relationship. (And an official Kissing of the Cod Ceremony to make them both honourary Newfies!)

The new song “Knock Knock” is a follow-up song to “Hello Newfoundland” and is sure to be once again embraced by Newfies everywhere as well as the strong fan base they have established in the last few years.

Newfoundland is also where they met Sandy Graham, Canadian music industry icon, who immediately signed them to Entertainment Music Group Canada. This company has now morphed into EMG Collectives, a newly formed global entity of which they are major participants.

Travelling to all parts of the world had them meet up with Dance Plant Records out of Montreal, Quebec and now they are being released with this new single with a Canadian label, proving once again that music has no borders.

Cashbox Canada and Spike Bulgarian Music Festival Present Showcase in Plovdiv, Bulgaria

Fri May 12, 2023

Time Jugglers
Time Jugglers

Cashbox Canada and Record World International magazines are hosting a special performance showcase Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Spike Bulgarian Music Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. As we believe music has no borders, we have chosen three special bands to perform from 8-11 pm as a kick-off party event.

What better way to start a global showcase than to kick it off with a local Bulgarian band!

Time Jugglers formed in 2016 and from day one were hitting audiences with the whole spectrum of rock, from alternative to heavy metal to blues. After their first album, “Stories in Time” (2019), they conducted a successful tour of the country, and their track “Hot Fire” caught the attention of Classic Rock Magazine. Their single “Spineless,” featuring Svetlana Bliznakova of SEVI, was on Z-Rock’s Top 30 for 13 weeks.

What the World Needs Now is Love

Fri Feb 03, 2023

What a truly strange and stressful few years we have all experienced! COVID, wars, tragedies, hurricanes, tornados, short of locusts we have experienced it all. (Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned locusts and invited that one in!)

But throughout it all we have had music. There is a song for every moment, every memory we have had in our lives. Artists carried on providing us with new songs to keep us going. Legendary artists are touring reminding us about the soundtrack of our lives.

So with music always there – what else do we need? Love. It always ends up as important as breathing and our hearts beating.

What better way to celebrate February the month of love with Cashbox Canada and Cashbox Radio than to create a Pick Hit list of what we love as our favourite songs.

We kick it off with an amazing rendition of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David-penned song, What the World Needs Now is Love. Released in 2018 this cover features

Burt Bacharach, Steve Tyrell, Martina McBride, Rod Stewart, James Taylor & Dionne Warwick and truly is remarkable.

Bara Jonson and Free is declaring that the Sky is The Limit

Fri Sep 02, 2022

They call their music Crockpop (Country/Rock/Pop).

After just having released their single ‘Bus Stop (waiting for a train)’ this dynamic duo is at it again. A new uplifting song about moving forward, never to let anyone else put you down or deter you from what you want to achieve.

With the stubbornness of a fool, with the synergy of these two and the belief that anything is possible, they now invite you to board their Crockpop train where Sky Is The Limit. This is also their title track for the upcoming album to be released this fall.

Bara Jonson and Free Raise Awareness with New Video and Single TIRO II (Time Is Running Out)

As early as the 1970s, voices began to be raised in awareness of that "time is running out", to try to prevent future environmental and climate change. These early TIROs were followed by more and louder voices, generation after generation; x, y and z. Their voices created a chorus, then a new wave of influences and now it is a storm warning with this powerful expression that is heard from all possible directions, contexts and from all parts of our world!

Cashbox Canada Magazine Hosts Two Showcases at Indie Week 2019

The Cashbox Caravan continues its journey, having stopped in France (MIDEM in Cannes, France) and Orebro, Sweden (Live at Heart Sweden) and ending our year back here in Canada at the ever-popular Indie Week 2019.

“The idea behind the travelling Cashbox Canada Caravan was to give indie artists a chance to showcase at major events and have the opportunity to perform for agents, pr people, and labels with first-class sound and on professional stages all on a global level,” says organizer Sandy Graham. “We are proud to be able to offer an alternative way of showcasing at major events where the competition for submission is so high.”

Now the third event this year of the Cashbox Caravan will be back in the country of origin for the magazine, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

“Indie Week has given us the opportunity to bring talent from other areas in the world so we will be able to have acts from not just Canada, but Sweden, Spain and the USA,” Graham says.

The first CASHBOX CARAVAN SHOWCASE is at the cocktail hours of:

Bara Jonson and Free Release new single/video ‘Devils Die Too’

Fri Oct 11, 2019

Over a year ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Bara Jonson and Free at Live at Heart Newfoundland, and I immediately became a fan.

The continued love and friendship that they developed from their showcase at that event turned into a ‘love fest’, with fans in Newfoundland and the rest of Canada as well, resulting in the release of ‘Hello Newfoundland’, their tribute to their time there and to the amazing people they met while on Burin Peninsula.

Now they are heading back to Canada to play the prestigious Indie Week in Toronto on Friday, November 15 as a part of the Cashbox Caravan Showcase at The Hideout club.

Their new release of ‘Devils Die Too’is the usual standard of this act, encompassing great vocals, intense lyrics and awesome production. When asked about what inspired this latest release, Bara Jonson and Free had this to say:
“As international touring artists Bara Jonson and Free (BjF) meet a lot of people. Most of them being warm-hearted and nice but occasionally there are those who seem to be egoistic and narcissistic, who will do almost anything for their own gain and purposes.”

Bara Jonson and Free Release New Single Far’n Away

Fri Aug 23 2019
Far'n Away Bara Jonson and Free

How does an act from Sweden take a chance and go to a Live at Heart Festival on a Peninsula named Burin in Canada’s Newfoundland, write a song and end up on the Swedish Independent Music Chart 10 weeks in a row in a # 1 position, thanks to the fans (who are now friends) that they met there?

This is what Bara Jonson and Free did. “We rented a car, drove through torrential rain, landed in the middle of nowhere at the Marystown Hotel and suddenly you feel like you came ‘home’? There is no explaining it, but that is what happened to us.”

So they went back to Sweden and immediately wrote “Hello Newfoundland” and their newly found friends embraced it. The release of the video included all of the amazing people who forged the road to these lifetime memories and also featured Tale The Rapper.

From there lifelong friendships were forged with the lovely people of Newfoundland and in addition the global delegates who attended became friends and fans, leading to being part of a sanctioned Showcase in Cannes, France at MIDEM 2019, attending Canadian Music Week in 2019,a return to Live at Heart Newfoundland 2019 and Cashbox Canada Showcase at CMW 2020.

Bara Jonson and Free Synergy

They say that music is the language of the soul, and nothing could be truer for this Crockpop (country/rock/pop) band from south of Sweden. Composed of a dynamic duo together with inspirational musicians and skillful performers, Bara Jonson and Free are a band like no other. From live gigs to streaming sessions and more, they continue to touch fans around the world with their blend of heartfelt lyrics, strong music, and soulful messages.

The duo has played at most of southern Sweden's festivals and also had tours in Denmark, Germany and Holland.

Bara Jonson and Free recently attended Live at Heart Newfoundland and came back from the island of the rock inspired by the welcoming community of Burin Peninsula NL. Performing at the Live at Heart in Örebro, Sweden earlier this year Bara Jonson and Free received an invitation from organizer Evan Murray to be one of only 30 acts to participate at Live At Heart Newfoundland, Marystown on the Burin Peninsula, this past October. It was to be an appearance that inspired them on many levels, and it touched the hearts of all who attended.
