Synthetik Blonde's Synthesized Sensational Album 'Pieces' Unleashes A Musical Revolution on Canada's Prairies

Fri Jun 30, 2023

From Canada’s prairies comes Pieces, the latest album and single by the synthesized duo Synthetik Blonde and is available now.

Not unlike the relationship of creative masterminds, Stefani Michele Kleppe and Bradley Evanochko, Pieces is a white hot, back-arching, hypnotic movement of melody and beats. The album is an electrifying soundtrack to the nights you can’t remember, but won’t soon forget. A fusion of synth pop and guitar-driven rock, Synthetik Blonde hat tip to the 70s and 80s and rim the glass with modern flare. Pieces, and its title track, dare you to move, compel you to sway, and whisk you away into the tantalizing madness of symphonic bliss.

The match of Synthetik Blonde is one made of rock and roll fantasies. Stefani was brought up in a musical family and a multi-instrumentalist, model and teacher, while Bradley was lead guitarist in several past bands, in addition to being a long-time instructor with Long and McQuade. “On a fateful night,” recalls Stefani, “I pulled into a venue and watched Brad on stage. My body lurched in all the deepest places. I had found my muse, my partner and my best friend!” The duo was born.

Toronto Rock Sensation Nice Vice Unleashes Raw Power with Explosive New Single 'Dust'

Fri Jun 30, 2023

Sometimes, it feels like romantic love isn't worth anything, especially when you're not getting what you want out of the relationship. When this happens, you're torn between wanting to stay with that person and wanting to leave. Toronto, Ontario rock artist Nice Vice captures this ambivalence in his new single, "Dust". Watch it on YouTube here:

The track opens with a bluesy electric guitar riff that immediately captures your attention. Then, Nice Vice's somber and earnest vocals come in as he sings about walking on eggshells in a relationship and not wanting it to implode.

By the time the chorus kicks in, the vocals are passionate, and the guitar riffs are, too. They match the intensity of the lyrics as the singer discusses wanting to leave but being resigned to stay for the sake of their lover.

Kyle Pacey's New Road Songs EP Is A Soulful, Funky, Rollicking Rhythm & Blues Romp

Fri Jun 30, 2023

The veteran singer/songwriter and virtuoso guitarist mixes together funky grooves, bluesy backbeats, and jazzy guitar licks with a classic pop sound for a unique R & B stew. The mainstay of the Hamilton music scene has strung together five great original songs that will keep the fingers snapping and the dance floor hopping.

Front and centre is Pacey’s authoritative, smoky voice, a bluesy howl that only comes from years of experience on the road and in the studio. On this set he leads a crack band of seasoned players, including bassist Howard Ayee (Moe Koffman, Eddie Schwartz, Rough Trade), drummer Michael Sloski (Ben E. King, Long John Baldry, Bruce Cockburn) and Rob Gusevs (The Arrows) on keyboards.

The title track opens things off, a “little story about what love can do”, as Pacey sings. This song sets the tempo for the rest of the collection, with blasts of trombone from Jay Burr giving the track a bit of a New Orleans feel. “Road Song” winds down with Burr bringing the song home for the final 40 seconds as the band plays on behind him.

Regarded as One of Canada’s Most Compelling Jazz Artists Christine Jensen Releases Day Moon Album

Fri Jun 30, 2023

We’ve witnessed and heard testimonies from countless musicians who were forced to struggle—financially and artistically—through the lockdowns of the pandemic. For some who have survived, there’s been the silver lining of a shift in perspective. Many artists dug deep in isolation and discovered the solution to long-elusive mysteries. Some let go of the tried-and-true and instead explored new means of expression.

The exceptional alto and soprano saxophonist from Canada releases the compelling Day Moon with her impressive quartet on Justin Time Records. The music is at turns, melancholic and ebullient, sober and playful. It’s a date where she creates an improvisational community of close friends in quartet and duo settings. “I got hit hard by the pandemic because I felt alone and was not doing what I’m supposed to do,” Jensen says. “So, I focused on my saxophones, teaching myself to present my sound, my solo voice. It’s almost like becoming the vocalist.”

Latin American Global Music Group Buenrostro Kicks Off The Depredator Tour In Toronto July 4

Fri Jun 30, 2023

Buenrostro comes from the very south of Mexico City, in the borough of Milpa Alta.

They grew up listening to the elder Nahuatl speakers—with their deeply rooted traditions and customs—while also being exposed to the modern culture of a cosmopolitan city. These are the sounds that inspired them to experiment and create a fusion of their ancestor’s traditional Mexican rhythms with global melodies. Their music is a combination of sones calentanos from Bajío, jarochos or huastecos; jarabes, pirekuas, cardenche songs and cumbias; sambas, rock, and jazz.

The members of BuenRostro played and danced those rhythms even before the inception of the group on October 8th, 2010. With time and experience their sound matured, resulting in their current “infusion” of different musical genres and styles. Although they’re sometimes difficult to label, BuenRostro manages to find a deep connection with anyone who listens or watches them perform, no matter their age.
